![]() I'm talking less than 1mm I need for them to fit.Īnd I'm trying to guide them in from bottom pushing up. Then bought all new bushings and ball joints and rebuilt both sides. Perhaps I should of just bought passenger side (USED?) and hoped for the best? IF I COULD BUY a reproduced one made for GTO I would? I just can't find one!!!! So then started my "first" go to "market" for a part. " In their computer" was a car that was sitting in a swamp. Plus when I pushed out the ball joint, it "popped" right out EASILY. My passenger side original one was repaired a long time ago, it has welded in stud's to hold the stock shock. ![]() I learn something new every day.Īnd here lies my issue. Shock-absorber mounting point differences are new to me. I have heard stories of cars that supposedly were built with an oval-bushing arm on one side, and a round-bushing arm on the other side. Oval bushings provide more isolation, small round bushings are better for handling. There are three bushing styles for the control arms on '64-'72 GM "A" and "A-Special" bodies. ![]() "I" would MUCH rather have original GM arms, rebuilt with fresh Polyurethane bushings, and ball-joints as needed, than brand-new poorly-made repops. Nobody goes to Asia to get higher quality. This is not surprising since it's a repop from Taiwan. The REAL problem is that the bushing, or the control arm body ISN'T MADE RIGHT. Careful, too much heat will destroy the rubber bond. How far away from spec are these arms? Will the arm flex enough to install? If you have to move the bushings, I'd want tack-welds to assure the bushing shell doesn't spin in the control arm hole. If you don't have proper spacing, knocking the bushing OUT so the flange isn't seated is a crappy way to "fix" the problem. The bushings are a bonded assembly, that presses into the control arm until the flange on the bushing seats against the control arm. I wish they just told me when I ordered, hey bud these will work but they aren't an exact match and you may need to push the bushings out a bit. Then I should be ready to install after a full summer waiting on this to happen. I Will go and try and obtain 9" between the two bushing and press them out a bit. So I go to the Ames site, and lone behold in the comments it says " hey be warned you may need to move the bushings out a bit as they are pressed in too far? " Not sure if any of those suppliers get them straight from Taiwan or not. It appears that DII gets them from Taiwan and resells them to others, prob ames etc and my canadian place early-birds. So I went on a hunt, is there any aftermarket available specifically listed for GTO that have the an oval bushing per side and fit right in? So I go to install them and the bushings are pressed in too far or the wrong bushings?Īgain, it's aftermarket so who knows do I push them out a bit? Well I thought hey it's aftermarket, what else is new, often aftermarket needs fine tuning. He said sorry those parts don't match for what we sell. I said do you have any comments on these part #'s being compatible? 1495k and 1495j? Phoned DII, said i have 69 gto, do you have lower control arms for them? The one rep said no.
