The next section discusses how to tweak the configuration. However, usually you need some tweaking before invoking make. In the simplest case, this is all you need to do to build a project. When you run the cmake command, it reads a file called CMakeLists.txt from /path/to/project/directory and generates a lot of files in /path/to/build/directory according to the settings in CMakeLists.txt (including the Makefile). This is a good practice as it won’t mess with your source folder and you could also build multiple variants in multiple folders. Notice that we have a separate folder for the build. Now suppose you have a project with CMake as the build system, you need to do the following $ mkdir /path/to/build/directory # you could create the directory at anywhere you like For example, you would install CMake on Ubuntu with $ apt-get install cmake If it’s not, it could be easily installed on Linux or macOS using package managers. So how exactly do we use CMake? Well, first you have to make sure CMake is installed. As our focus for this post is on how to use CMake, details on how to write CMake files to accomplish all these are not discussed here. Specifically, CMake lets you easily handle things like building on multiple platform, supporting multiple compilers, supporting optional dependencies, etc. However, if you have a large project with somewhat complex compilation steps, CMake will be a better tool. Also, Make is useful for some simple automation tasks. In that case, using CMake is not really necessary. Well, I do agree that Make can be quite handy if you are working on a small codebase which doesn’t have a lot of logic in building the project. If you know what Makefile is, you may wonder why someone would use CMake when there is already Make. Specifically, I wanna talk about how CMake should be used, which can be a bit confusing for someone using CMake for the first time. I would like to share what I’ve learnt here in this blog post. ![]() Therefore, I decided to learn more about CMake and fix the problem. However, there were some problems with the CMake system which is used in the project. The general template for such a project can have the following structure.Ĭmake_minimum_required ( VERSION 2.8) SET( CMAKE_CONFIGURATION_TYPES "Debug Release MinSizeRel RelWithDebInfo" CACHE STRING "" FORCE) if ( NOT CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE) set ( CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE Debug CACHE STRING "Choose the type of build, options are: None Debug Release RelWithDebInfo MinSizeRel.Today I started working on an existing CUDA project and the first thing I did was to try to build the project. Hence, I describe here the stages that I had to do to import a CMake project from Linux to eclipse that run on windows. Still, when I had to switch it to eclipse on windows environment, that was a challenging task. Usually, I work in a Linux environment in the terminal where everything is installed correctly in its place, and things work great. For example, a shared source code that simultaneously able to recompile in both processors when any change occurs in these shared files. Usually, the MCU has some communication with other processors (usually PC), and CMake also allows easy integration between both projects: MCU and HOST. CMake is a powerful tool to manage c/c++ projects, and I prefer to use it in on my embedded projects also.

3 He was also the only active participant in the translation movement who wrote a detailed account of his own translation activities and that of his associates. Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq was the most important and prolific translator in Islamic history. Two of them stand out because they do not just offer a wealth of information but became essential sources for all later writers who grappled with the subject: Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq’s so-called Epistle ( al-Risālah) and the Catalogue ( Kitāb al-fihrist) by Ibn al-Nadīm (d. 385/995 or 388/998). The most informative sources for an understanding of the translation movement are contemporary bibliographical works. We hope they will be a representative selection from what is a much larger body of material. ![]() It is this second category of material from which the sample texts below are drawn. In addition to basic information about specific translations-who translated what, for whom, and when-these works offer a substantial amount of detail on the biographies of individual translators, the activities of sponsors, and the translation history of specific texts or entire genres of texts alternatively, they can criticise translations and translators and sometimes even question the value of translation itself. The second category of Arabic material about translation comes from classical Arabic literature, which in our case means mainly contemporary bibliographical and biographical compilations, but can also mean other writings, for example historical, philosophical or religious works. Rather, they offer a window into the practice of translation and the mindset of a translator who confidently reconstructed the text, added missing material, and sometimes even contradicted the original author. None of these notes tells us how Ḥunayn would have explained why he translated. He also frequently explained his procedure, remarked on philological problems, and added material to fill gaps in the text or aid comprehension. 2 Ḥunayn annotated the translations he produced with explanatory notes, glosses, and clarifications. ![]() Almost all such notes in Arabic translations are from the pen of one man, the physician and master translator Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq (d. 260/873). Translation notes in the body of translated texts constitute a related source. In some cases however, we also learn who paid for the translation and why it was undertaken. ![]() With few exceptions, their notes tell us little beyond what was translated, when, and by whom. Translators and scribes often recorded information about these at the beginnings, the ends, or in the margins of the texts. The first are the translations themselves. Greener was a firm believer in the concept of muzzleloaders and refused to make any breechloaders. It was around this time that the company began to really prosper. Money obtained from supplying South Africa with two-groove rifles enabled the company to erect a factory on "Rifle Hill", Aston, in 1859. Greener was appointed to make guns for Prince Albert. Hence, he moved his business from Newcastle to Birmingham.ĭuring the period of 1845-58, W. In November 1844, he determined that most of the materials and components he used for gun making came from Birmingham, and his business was being hampered by the distance between the two towns. Greener begins in 1829, when William Greener, who had been working in London for Manton, a prominent gun maker, returned to his hometown of Newcastle and founded the W. The company produced its first firearm in 1829 and is still in business, with a fifth generation Greener serving on its board of directors. Greener is a sporting shotgun and rifle manufacturer from England. Examples of historical guns made before 1985 are shown on the Historical Guns page.W.W. However, Greeners also have a long tradition of producing spectacular carved ‘art guns’.Įxamples of some of the shotguns and rifles made since 1985 are shown on the New Guns page. There are two ‘house’ patterns of engraving ‘Greener Scroll’ and ‘Four Seasons’ (game scenes) which can be adapted to suit different game or calibre of gun. Each add their own specialist knowledge and skills to ensuring the finished product is an exceptional combination of art, science, engineering and reliability. These craftsmen include barrel makers, borers and filers, action makers, jointers, spring and parts makers, stockers, smoothers, polishers, engravers, hardeners, freers, finishers, gun case and accessory makers. Since 1985 the present owners have built up a team of the most skilled and experienced craftsmen in England to make exquisite sporting shotguns and rifles for those sportsmen and women, collectors and enthusiasts who want the best in the world. Webley, which acquired the gunmaking part of the business continued to make the single barrel GP for a few years, but it was not until 1985 that the company was bought by its present owners, David Dryhurst, Graham Greener (W W Greener’s great-grandson), Ken Richardson and Richard Tandy. So, in 1965 the company was sold, the old factory with its imposing Victorian edifice was pulled down and production for the company as a family run business ceased. The company under the two brothers, and later Leyton Greener, Harry’s son, concentrated on well-made, but less expensive ‘Empire’ models and single barrel GP shotguns - developed from a riot control gun for the Egyptian Ghaffir police force.īut the building of the inner ring road in Birmingham meant the factory complex fronting St Mary’s Square had to go. Production was switched to military requirements during two world wars and during the intervening period demand for very high quality sporting guns diminished. W W Greener’s two sons Harry and Charles took over the business from their father in 1910 and ten years later the firm was incorporated into a limited company. This book, like The Breachloader and how to use it published in 1892, ran to nine editions. Like his father he wrote several books the most famous of which The Gun and its Development was published in 1881. By the turn-of-the-century in 1900 he had the world’s largest sporting gun factory employing over four hundred and fifty skilled craftsmen. The cross-bolt which he invented in 1867 to strengthen the action of breach loaders resulted in the strongest action, weight for weight, of any gun made. The former allowed him to win all The Field Trials from 1875 to 1879 and this led most wing shots to use Greener guns to win prizes and competitions all over the world. Probably W W Greener’s greatest contributions were, affecting the system of choke boring, and, inventing the famous cross-bolt. After William’s death in 1869 his second son, William Wellington Greener, continued the family tradition of making high-quality sporting and military guns, and his inventions helped to develop the breach-loader to make it the modern sporting gun we know today.
